St. Louis County Police Officer Don Trentham checks the breathing apparatus on his gas mask in preparation for entering a house at 9551 Gentry in Lemay Monday afternoon. Public health officials, animal control agents and county police came to the home of Lovella Sparwasser, 77, armed with a court order to remove all of the cats on the property. However, they found the house empty of cats, but full of trash and animal feces. They suspect that Sparwasser removed the animals Sunday night when she learned of the court order. The smell coming from the house was overwhelming along with all of the fleas in the house which prompted the officials to take precautions before entering.
